What is Rolfing® Structural Integration?

Rolfing® Structural Integration is a process-based approach combining manual and movement therapy techniques to realign and balance the body in relation to gravity. Through a series of ten unique sessions with specific goals in mind, each session also builds progressively on the session before it. Rolfing® pays attention to all of the body’s systems, movement patterns, and habits while working with connective tissue called fascia. This tissue completely connects and intertwines with every part of the body including muscles, organs, nerves, and bone. It acts as a neural network that stores, integrates, and organizes the body according to feedback from the environment and habitual patterns based on past events. By releasing restrictions and balancing tension in the fascia, clients have the potential to gain increased energy, greater awareness, improved posture, better circulation, enhanced performance and relief from chronic pain.

Sessions are between approximately 75 minutes in length and typically begin with a standing structural analysis where the practitioner looks for patterns, assesses functionality, and observes changes from session to session. Hands-on work is done on a comfortable table as well as seated in a chair. Clients are actively engaged in the process of sessions, and unlike most other forms of bodywork, you will be asked to participate by moving in specific ways that increase the effectiveness of the hands-on work. Because of this, it is recommended that women wear running shorts and a jog bra, two-piece bathing suit, or underwear. Men should wear running shorts or underwear.

Testimonials

“I recently went through the Rolfing 10 series with Jesse and I have to say the experience was life-changing, to say the least. I had numerous injuries from over the years after being in the military and being required to run in boots. I had constant shin pain. My calves specifically would tighten up and I always walked with my shoulders hunched and almost glued to my head. I would always hold tension by shrugging my shoulders involuntarily. I would have to massage my legs constantly with a fascia blaster and other massage tools. Knots would continually form and I went dry needling and to extensive physical therapy, but nothing worked for the long haul. These were only bandaid approaches.”

“I’ve had hundreds of massages over the years and it would only temporarily fix the problem. This is COMPLETELY different. The process is called structural integration because it literally RESTRUCTURES your entire posture and breaks up old patterns in the fascia resetting it how it’s supposed to be. The only way I can describe how I feel in my body now is “FREE!”. After completing the 10 series, I have not had reoccurring pain in my shins or legs. The experience is pretty miraculous to me and I am forever grateful I took the leap and went through the 10 series.”
